Recovery days: what to wear and what actually helps
Progress happens between sessions. Recovery is not doing nothing — it is a set of small, repeatable habits, and the right clothes make them easier to keep.
The core of recovery
- Sleep — the single strongest recovery tool, before any device or supplement.
- Protein and enough total calories across the day.
- Hydration, especially after sweaty sessions.
- Easy movement: a 30–40 minute walk moves more blood than lying still.
- Mobility: 10 minutes on the areas your training loads most.
What to wear on a rest day
Soft, warm, non-restrictive: a hoodie, a long sleeve, wide or relaxed bottoms. Blood flow matters, and tight seams in the wrong places make it less likely you will spend twenty minutes stretching on the floor.
Compression: when it helps
Compression pieces can feel good after long runs or heavy legs, mainly as comfort and reduced soreness. Use them after the session or in the evening rather than sleeping in them.
A simple weekly structure
- 2–4 loading sessions.
- 1–2 easy days: walking, mobility, swimming.
- 1 full rest day, deliberately planned, not accidental.
Signals you need more rest
Resting heart rate creeping up, sleep getting worse, motivation dropping, small joints aching. When two or more appear together, take the easy week — it costs less than an injury.

Questions on this topic
Leggings or shorts for running?
Below roughly 12°C full-length tights are more comfortable; above that shorts or short tights keep you cooler. The deciding factor is chafing, so choose the option with fewer inner-thigh seams.
Do I need special clothes to start running?
No. Start with anything non-cotton that fits well, then upgrade the two pieces you notice most: tights and the top.
Are workout leggings fine for yoga?
If they are soft, opaque and have four-way stretch — yes. Heavily compressive pairs designed for lifting usually feel restrictive in long holds.
